Numerical simulation of the dynamic response of batter piles and pile groups

Batter piles are most commonly used to resist large lateral loads caused by winds, tidal waves and soil pressure as experienced offshore structures, bridges, towers in general. The details literature on the dynamic behaviour of these batter based in-situ tests limited. present study focused single pile groups subjected machine induced vibrations using 3D finite element (FE) analysis. coupled soil-pile system consisting mass, pile/pile groups, oscillator motor assembly mounted top cap has been modelled ABAQUS. mass was considered a half space through appropriate model dimensions absorbing boundary conditions (using infinite element). A hybrid modelling approach adopted obtain bending moment along length pile. FE models were developed field conducted authors bored cast (three angles 0°, 10° 20°) (0° 20°). Dynamic applied form sweep for varying force levels excitation separately. responses obtained terms displacement time histories at mid height cap, displacement, profile all cases. This show that (batter attract moments three times more than vertical piles.
